An eight metre high concrete stairwell in the rooftop restaurant of the Hoxton, Southwark suggested that something in the vein of medieval cathedral banner would help to bring colour, texture and warmth to the space. Inspired by a trip to Milan, we used rich corduroys and velvets with gold thread to create a thoroughly contemporary take on an old idea.
