Broderie Anglaise

Although it may be obvious at first glance, these curtains are predominantly made from old army blankets – a good source of relatively inexpensive curtaining fabric, partly because they don’t need further interlining.
We stitched strips of antique broderie anglaise to the bottom of the blankets – a lovely contrast to their simplicity. To emphasise the beauty and quality of the workmanship that had gone into the lace, we placed it over rich dark velvet.

The half window panel was designed to compliment the curtains – reflecting the shapes and patterns.
